........red Durabak is even better!
![]() I decided to use Durabak awhile back. I knew that wheeling in Arizona can be hell on your paint just like pretty much every trail in the world. I did not want to spend a lot on the paint just to have it ruined by rocks dust and tree branches. Plus the Durabak paint turns a few heads!!!
Before it could be painted I had to replace both rear quarter panels because they were pretty rusted out. I first cut out the old panel at the lower body line
and then put in the new panel to make sure it was going to fit. I had to trim it in a few places, but otherwise it fit good. I then drilled 5/16 holes every inch on the center line with a few more on both the front and back for reinforcement. I used a metal adhesive between the panels before using 5/16 pop rivets. When all the rivets were in place I sanded them down with 36 grit sandpaper
![]() ![]() After they were sanded I filled in all the cracks with body filler and then primed them up. I then removed all of the trim on the tail gate and filled in all the holes to give it more of a "simple" look to it.
![]() It was time to paint. I first laid down a drop cloth over the driveway and then pulled the jeep out of the garage. Taped everything off and went to work. The hardest part was getting the Durabak open! I started on the roof and then work my way from front to back. By the time I got to the back it was time to start on the second coat.
![]() ![]() I let it dry for the 1 day and then put all the trim back on, but not before I put a fresh coat of black paint on all the trim pieces.
